When did the impact of COVID-19 first occur to you? How did your reaction to COVID-19 change between then and the first case in your town?

Mid-March when my library closed. I don’t know when the first case was reported. But the county’s numbers blew up when the nursing home 1/2 mile from my house exploded with cases ( supposedly from patients transferred from NYC).

How is your life different now than it was before the pandemic?

I wear a mask in public. I limit my errand running (saving me gas...)

How are you feeling? What are you doing to relieve stress?

So many other drastic, self-inflicted, changes happened in my life that COVID, thankfully, has been barely a blip.

What have you noticed has changed in your community since the outbreak? What has surprised you?

It’s like a ghost town. I have been surprised that even folks in our lowest Socio-economic class are wearing masks. Most have appeared to be the least educated and informed members of our community. It made me wonder about their access to information.

Are you a business owner who has had to close? If you are still open, how have you had to adjust how your business operates?

n/a

Are you an essential employee? What do you do? What precautions are being taken at your workplace? What precautions are implementing at home?

n/a

Are you an employee who has been laid off or furloughed? Were you able to get unemployment? Were you able to retain your health insurance?

n/a

Are you working from home? What adjustments or challenges are you experiencing?

n/a

Do you have children at home? How’s it going?

n/a

If you’re a student, was school canceled? Were you able to complete your studies online? Do you think you’ll be back on campus in the fall?

n/a

How are you using social media, the Internet, or digital platforms during the pandemic?

Same as before

Did you have to postpone any major life events? (e.g. Graduation, wedding, major birthday) What did you do instead?

n/a

Do you have animals? Did you adopt a pet? How have they impacted your day?

No change

What positive things did you contribute to or notice take place?

Sewed masks. Real rallying around essential workers. Our bike shops has noooo inventory and is a month behind on tune ups and repairs.

Did you or someone you know contract COVID-19? What was it like?

n/a

If you lost someone during the pandemic, how did you celebrate their lives?

n/a

What do you wish you knew before the pandemic began?

n/a

How do you think this pandemic will change how we behave going forward? What will the “new normal” look like?

I think it depends on how long we are living this locked down existence. How many months are years have to pass without significant adjustments to our ‘freedoms’ before a new normal is declared. Is virtual, homeschool, a viable option for pre-K-12? Is working from home really a sustainable solution, regardless of technology and available infrastructure? Humans are social creatures. Can we exist isolated into such small groups?

Is there anything else you would like to add that hasn't already been asked above?

I grew up a child of nuclear threat during the Cold War. I’ve read and watched enough dystopian fiction to know what would happen, but the pandemic doesn’t exhibit the traditional elements of a global disaster. It looks like business as usual until you look reeeealy close at the details of life.
