When did the impact of COVID-19 first occur to you? How did your reaction to COVID-19 change between then and the first case in your town?

In March 2020 when we decided to return from Delaware to our home a few weeks early. Delaware was locking down and we wanted to leave before we couldn't.

How is your life different now than it was before the pandemic?

Mask wearing, distancing, no live poetry reading events, no live music shows, less visiting of relatives and friends, less dining out.

How are you feeling? What are you doing to relieve stress?

Feeling good. Not feeling particularly stressed. Walk in the woods. Read. Write.

What have you noticed has changed in your community since the outbreak? What has surprised you?

People are generally following guidelines, even the obviously silly ones. I'm surprised by how imperious the NY State government has become and how easily folks fell into lock-step during the lock down.

Are you a business owner who has had to close? If you are still open, how have you had to adjust how your business operates?

n/a

Are you an essential employee? What do you do? What precautions are being taken at your workplace? What precautions are implementing at home?

n/a

Are you an employee who has been laid off or furloughed? Were you able to get unemployment? Were you able to retain your health insurance?

No. On Medicare with a supplement. Insurance intact.

Are you working from home? What adjustments or challenges are you experiencing?

I'm a poet. Having a hard time organizing readings, book shows, sales. Using online technology more - hating the lack of face to face contact.

Do you have children at home? How’s it going?

n/a

If you’re a student, was school canceled? Were you able to complete your studies online? Do you think you’ll be back on campus in the fall?

n/a

How are you using social media, the Internet, or digital platforms during the pandemic?

Use social media for Zoom conferences, family "visits", promoting my book, interviews, staying in touch with the writing community.

Did you have to postpone any major life events? (e.g. Graduation, wedding, major birthday) What did you do instead?

Had to postpone book launch events. Used the internet to get the word out.

Do you have animals? Did you adopt a pet? How have they impacted your day?

n/a

What positive things did you contribute to or notice take place?

Folks seem to be more concerned about those who can't get out on their own.

Did you or someone you know contract COVID-19? What was it like?

n/a

If you lost someone during the pandemic, how did you celebrate their lives?

n/a

What do you wish you knew before the pandemic began?

How long it would last.

What would you want future generations to know about the 2020 pandemic? How would you recommend they prepare for it?

Don't panic. Question authority. Rely on science and not on pseudo-science. Be reasonable about being safe but don't live in fear.

How do you think this pandemic will change how we behave going forward? What will the “new normal” look like?

It shouldn't change much. We should be very careful about who we elect to public office. The "new normal" is a media concoction (like much of that drives the worry, fear and panic) and we need to be very careful about how we react to news.

Is there anything else you would like to add that hasn't already been asked above?
