When did the impact of COVID-19 first occur to you? How did your reaction to COVID-19 change between then and the first case in your town?

early March when I began to wear a mask, mid March daughter's college break was extended thru end of semester/became increasingly scared watching news from NYC

How is your life different now than it was before the pandemic?

going out only once a week to grocery shop and that is during the hour for seniors and immuno compromised/miss going to the library, began using download services/

How are you feeling? What are you doing to relieve stress?

i consider myself fortunate to have my husband and daughter with me, but it's still lonely and frightening watching the cases and deaths rising/to relieve stress i go for walks, listen to audio books, draw

What have you noticed has changed in your community since the outbreak? What has surprised you?

i can't really answer this as i'm only out once a week around dawn to get groceries or on occasion to drive to a nature park to walk

checking in with friends and following election fallout, as well as inadequacy of federal response to the pandemic

Did you have to postpone any major life events? (e.g. Graduation, wedding, major birthday) What did you do instead?

no

Do you have animals? Did you adopt a pet? How have they impacted your day?

my daughter has a cat, and we find her presence soothing; unfortunately, our one remaining dog developed kidney failure and died two months ago - it was devastating

What positive things did you contribute to or notice take place?

biden won and he will address the pandemic rather than pass it off to the state and local level

Did you or someone you know contract COVID-19? What was it like?

very encouraged with the coming of vaccines

If you lost someone during the pandemic, how did you celebrate their lives?

yes, my friend is recovering after hospitalization. She was terrified, gasping for breath, and worried going back home to her older widowed mother.

What do you wish you knew before the pandemic began?

i am thankful i have not lost anyone

What would you want future generations to know about the 2020 pandemic? How would you recommend they prepare for it?

that mask wearing could help so much, but then this wasn't discovered until after it began

How do you think this pandemic will change how we behave going forward? What will the “new normal” look like?

follow the science, listen to medical experts, take every recommended precaution to contain it

those of us who have taken the pandemic seriously will gradually and gingerly begin to socialize
