How did your reaction to COVID-19 change between then and the first case in your town? Question 1 The day we had to begin working from home. I had to go to the store- we had very little TP!- I laughed when I first saw the parking lot, all the cars were parked with at least one space between them. Then I realized people were seriously afraid and this wasn’t a joke. I went home and made masks for myself, family and friends. How is your life different now than it was before the pandemic? Question 2 We haven’t seen our families in months- they live outside the area. And our bi-weekly night out in town is no more. How are you feeling? What are you doing to relieve stress? Question 3 When the weather was so cold in May, it was getting increasingly difficult to stay upbeat about anything. Much better now. What have you noticed has changed in your community since the outbreak? What has surprised you? Question 4 I was surprised to find so many high end cars driving around- the ones you only see “In Season” Are you a business owner who has had to close? If you are still open, how have you had to adjust how your business operates? Question 5 n/a Are you an essential employee? What do you do? What precautions are being taken at your workplace? What precautions are implementing at home? Question 6 n/a Are you an employee who has been laid off or furloughed? Were you able to get unemployment? Were you able to retain your health insurance? Question 7 n/a Are you working from home? What adjustments or challenges are you experiencing? Question 8 Yes. I really enjoy working from home and find myself very creative and productive. There is so much of my job that I cannot do, though. And those components I was very much missing. I have started back to work two days a week now and I am loving it! As far as I am concerned- this is a perfect work schedule. Do you have children at home? How’s it going? Question 9 n/a If you’re a student, was school canceled? Were you able to complete your studies online? Do you think you’ll be back on campus in the fall? Question 10 n/a How are you using social media, the Internet, or digital platforms during the pandemic? Question 11 Zoom!!!!!!! I am not a social media person at all. But we did have a couple of Zoom Happy Hours with friends and it certainly has been a wonderful tool professionally. Did you have to postpone any major life events? (e.g. Graduation, wedding, major birthday) What did you do instead? Question 12 My neighbors grand daughter graduated from college so we had a parade complete with fire trucks and honking horns. She wore her cap and gown. Do you have animals? Did you adopt a pet? How have they impacted your day? Question 13 At first my boys- my cats- were annoyed because their routine was upended and I kept invading their favorite chair- silly me! We worked it out. What positive things did you contribute to or notice take place? Question 14 We have always been foodies- but we got really creative and cooked some fabulous meals. Did you or someone you know contract COVID-19? What was it like? Question 15 n/a What do you wish you knew before the pandemic began? Question 17 I would have bought some extra- not hoarded!- some TP and cleaning products. My cupboard will never be that empty again. What would you want future generations to know about the 2020 pandemic? How would you recommend they prepare for it? Question 18 We still aren’t passed this pandemic. I think we need to ensure as a society that we have the necessary equipment and personnel to deal effectively with the next surge. I also found Gov. Cuomo’s daily briefing to be an oasis of comfort. He gave us facts- and some of his opinions- clearly and in ways everyone could understand. I am very proud to say I am a New Yorker- we shut down one of the largest cities in the world and virtually halted the virus from spreading further.
